HEATHERDOWNS PROMISE
At Heatherdowns Labradors, we are committed to producing healthy, well-bred Labrador Retrievers that meet the highest standards of temperament and soundness. We carefully research the lineage of every sire and dam, including the health and quality of any previous litters. Breeding occurs only when we are confident that both parents meet our strict genetic and structural standards.
By adhering to these principles, we significantly reduce the likelihood of hereditary defects. Therefore, we offer this guarantee—provided the purchaser complies with the terms outlined in this agreement. No exceptions will be made.
All Heatherdowns Labradors puppies are:
Guaranteed to be purebred, from Grand Champion and Champion bloodlines.
Whelped from OFA-certified parents with normal DNA clearances verified through Orivet (formerly Paw Print Genetics).
Registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC), with pedigrees accurately documented.
While no breeder can guarantee that any dog will be entirely free of genetic imperfections, we breed only from animals that have:
Completed all required genetic testing.
Achieved an OFA breeding rating of Excellent, Good, or Fair.
Heatherdowns Labradors performs comprehensive genetic screening for: EIC, CNM, PRA-PRCD, Stargardt Disease, Cystinuria, Copper Toxicosis, the Dilute Gene, Hip and Elbow Dysplasia, Patella, Dentition, and Cardiac health.
Each puppy undergoes a veterinary health check 24–72 hours before release. Our veterinarian conducts a thorough examination, assessing hydration, pain, vital signs, general appearance, eyes, ears, skin, oral cavity, dentition, lymphatics, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, urogenital, urinary, respiratory, and neurological systems. A written Assessment and Health Plan is then provided.
HEATHERDOWNS HEALTH GUARANTEE EXCLUSIONS
Heatherdowns Labradors takes proactive measures to prevent and, when necessary, treat parasites, worms, coccidia, and giardia, which are common in young puppies. These conditions are treatable and therefore excluded from this guarantee.
Because parasites can reappear as they shed, they may resurface after transitioning to a new home—even following negative fecal results.
Trupanion Pet Insurance provides coverage for these conditions, provided that the complimentary one-month policy is activated within 24 hours of receiving your puppy from Heatherdowns.
This guarantee does not cover any non-genetic disorders or conditions, including but not limited to:
Injuries after handoff, Umbilical hernias, Entropion, Undescended testicles, Enlarged or inverted vulvas, Overbites, Urinary tract infections (UTIs) and Migrated microchips.
Because each puppy receives a comprehensive veterinary health check 24–72 hours before release, no refunds or exchanges will be considered for conditions or injuries reported after handoff.
Heatherdowns Labradors does not reimburse or cover veterinary expenses incurred after ownership has been transferred.
NEW PUPPY PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES
The purchaser agrees to take their new puppy to a licensed veterinarian of their choice no later than the due date of the second vaccination series, as indicated in the Heatherdowns New Puppy Health Record.
At seven weeks of age, each puppy receives its first vaccination, Nobivac Canine 1-DAPPv-CV, providing broad protection against parainfluenza, adenovirus type 1 (hepatitis), adenovirus type 2 (respiratory disease), canine distemper, parvovirus, and coronavirus.
The second vaccination series is due three weeks after the initial seven-week vaccination.
Heatherdowns follows a 7-, 10-, 13-, and 16-week vaccination schedule to ensure optimal immunity and protection.
HEATHERDOWNS GUARANTEE SPECIFICS
1. Health Guarantee
If a dog is found to be in ill health due to a condition clearly attributable to the seller, the buyer may return the dog with a written diagnosis from a licensed veterinarian for a replacement puppy from the litter of their choice with first-pick priority.
The seller reserves the right to have the diagnosis confirmed by a veterinarian of their choice, at the seller’s expense.
If the second veterinarian does not concur, a third veterinarian, mutually agreed upon by both parties, will review the case. The third veterinarian’s decision shall be final.
2. Unconditional Guarantee
The purchaser may return the puppy, in the same condition as when acquired, within three (3) days of final purchase for any reason. The purchase price will be refunded excluding the initial deposit.
3. Congenital Disease Guarantee
Heatherdowns Labradors performs extensive DNA testing on all breeding dogs to maintain the highest standards of genetic soundness.
If a fatal congenital condition is diagnosed within one (1) year of purchase, the breeder reserves the right to confirm the diagnosis through a licensed veterinarian of choice, at the breeder’s expense.
Upon verified diagnosis, a replacement puppy from the litter of your choice with first-pick priority will be provided.
Buyers agree to:
Provide regular veterinary care and proper daily maintenance.
Notify Heatherdowns immediately if a health problem arises and follow all veterinary recommendations.
Failure to meet these conditions will void the health guarantee.
Treatable conditions that do not affect the dog’s quality of life are not covered under this guarantee.
4. 30-Month Hip and Hereditary Guarantee
If your dog is diagnosed with moderate or severe hip dysplasia, digital X-rays will be accepted for OFA evaluation.
Upon verified diagnosis, you will be offered a replacement puppy from the litter of your choice with first-pick selection.
Every reasonable precaution has been taken to reduce the risk of hereditary conditions affecting the hips, elbows, eyes, patella, dentition, and heart. These measures include:
Completion of all required OFA certifications under the AKC Breeder of Heart program.
Comprehensive genetic testing through Orivet’s Labrador Panel (formerly Paw Print Genetics).
