Heatherdowns Labradors – Our Puppy Culture
At Heatherdowns Labradors, our commitment begins with excellence in breeding. We carefully pair only the highest-quality dams and sires, selected for their superior genetics, OFA certifications, and Champion or Grand Champion pedigrees — including exceptional international lines that strengthen our genetic diversity.
But beyond genetics, we believe a puppy’s environment plays an equally vital role in shaping a confident, healthy, and well-balanced dog.
We start early, ensuring each expectant mother receives all necessary vaccinations to pass on strong antibodies to her puppies through six weeks of age. Our whelping and nursery areas are meticulously cleaned and sanitized to maintain a safe, bacteria-free environment.
From birth to eight weeks, every puppy experiences a thoughtfully designed developmental program that promotes curiosity, adaptability, and resilience. They are gently introduced to a variety of sounds, surfaces, and sights to build confidence and sensory awareness. Daily outdoor play allows them to explore different textures — grass, flowers, pinecones, tile, concrete, and stone — while engaging with toys of varied materials to encourage healthy exploration.
Emotional well-being is nurtured through daily individual handling, both indoors and outdoors, fostering trust and early bonding. We also introduce gentle startle-and-recovery exercises, consistent routines, and enrichment activities to help puppies develop calmness and confidence.
As they grow, we begin foundational training — including crate introduction and guidance on nipping and teething — to prepare them for success in their new homes.
At Heatherdowns Labradors, our goal is to raise puppies who are not only healthy and beautiful but also well-adjusted, confident, and ready to thrive as cherished family companions.

There are upcoming litters available. Please fill out the "Next Steps" form below if you are interested one of our wonderful puppies becoming a member of your family. Karen, ‘Ren’ owner of Heatherdowns Labradors will contact you to answer any questions you may have! If a Litter Announcement shows Picks are available, you may make a deposit. A deposit of $350.00 is required to hold the picking position of your pup. You can make a deposit right through our ‘Webstore’ Page called, Pup De’PAW’sits!! Our website Webstore interfaces with the program ECWID. Our Webstore funds are processed through ECWID. Encryption is provided by ECWID that will safe guard your information.
Do we get to visit Heatherdowns? We really enjoy the opportunity to provide visits for you when your pup reaches 5 weeks. Any other time than this, would take away from our adult Mamas and Papas and the things they deserve to do like hiking on our property! It would also take away from our need to provide the best care for pups and adult dogs! Providing the Best Care is very detailed to include the limiting of exposure to diseases. We do offer visits but when your pup is 5 weeks old.
How do I know what Puppy will be mine? Once you have decided on a litter, you will be placed on the website with your pick of the litter placement and deposit date. You will receive a receipt detailing the litter name, your placement pick, gender/color preference and other details. Heatherdowns Labradors may need to move a person into a litter who did not receive a pup on a previous litter who may have a deposit prior to you. Heatherdowns Labradors also reserves the right from time to time to select/hold back a pup for our breeding program. At times, this 'right to reserve' may affect the pick position.
What are Heatherdowns Labradors Policies? We understand that family situations and circumstances may change. Should that happen, and you are not able to take delivery of your puppy from a specific litter, your deposit is transferable and can be applied to a future litter. Your Deposit is refundable within 1 year from your Deposit Date, if your circumstances have changed and can no longer take in a puppy due to circumstances beyond your control. If, a deposit is determined to be refundable, an administrative fee of 30% will be deducted. Additional Option Litters are always offered to prevent delays on receiving your ‘Furever’ Pup in case your 1st Choice pup is not produced.
Does HEATHERDOWNS provide any discounts? Heatherdowns also offers Discounts along the way once you have placed a deposit with us. We offer discounts at Whelp and Visits when a payment is made towards your pup! For example, when pups are born you will receive an email about the Litter and your Pup. In the email, a discount will be offered if a payment is made towards your pup at the time of Whelp. A second discount opportunity will be offered at Visits. You will receive the Visit Schedule to see your pup, and there will be directions on how to receive another discount at your visit.
What Happens if I cannot Pick-Up Puppy on Schedule Release Date? We schedule the Release Date of all Litters at the time of Whelp to give you plenty of time to schedule Puppy Release Date! If you absolutely cannot pick-up puppy on release date, there is a $35 Fee per night to keep Puppy day/night past release date.
Heatherdowns can meet you at DIA Airport with your pup. Please keep in mind there is a $135 fee.
Will I have an AKC Limited or Full Registration? Both registrations are AKC. A Limited Registration is for those families who have no intent to breed their dog in the future, and purchase their puppy as a family, hunting, or therapy companion. Limited Registrations do not allow for future litters to be registered with the AKC. Limited Registration does allow for a pup to participate and gain points in AKC events such as hunt tests, field trails, and dock events. A Conformation Event (Dog Show) is the only event a Limited Registered dog is unable to participate in, or gain points in that category. Litter owners (Breeders) generally offer Limited Registration in order to protect their breeding programs. Limited Registrations may be changed to Full Registration with consent by, and negotiated fee paid to the breeder, as well as a $25.00 fee paid to the AKC. We schedule visits to our ranch to meet us, see our adult dogs, pups, and our facility when your Pup is about 5-6 weeks old. Immediate Family ONLY Please. Too many Labrador Lovers at once can be a little chaotic. We do visits on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11:00pm to 3:00pm by appointment only.
